Day 18 Write Every Day
May. 19th, 2026 12:41 amIntro/FAQ
My check in: I got a lot of feedback from my two brilliant beta readers and have therefore done a lot of editing and rewriting and clearing up sloppy moments. I think I might have gotten in about 300 extra words and may write more before I crash.

Icon is Duncan MacLeod lying about in flowers. Just because it's sweet. And he looks gorgeous which is not unusual. Methos certainly thinks so. My Methos anyway.

Date: 2026-05-19 03:29 pm (UTC)May 18. Didn't sleep well, so lots of laying awake in bed brainstorming the auction fic, but when I finally did get up to write I did not do that, I messed around with another story instead. Not to any great result, but sometimes that's how it goes. Whatever, I like the story, I enjoyed messing around with it.
You make me sad I don't have any Ewen icons! But approximately no one is going to make those but myself...

Date: 2026-05-19 06:09 pm (UTC)Thank you for Hurrahs. I agree with you about beta readers. I want my work to be better so I want constructive criticism. I thank goodness for the two I have one of whom has never even watched Highlander and only knows the characters from my stories, but is still totally into the story and the characters. And, he has an MFA in theater with partially a specialization in script analysis and has taught play writing. He gives me incredibly good feedback about flow and tension and just all of the mechanics of writing. Yay for him.
My sympathies about not being able to sleep. And I can only giggle that you were being kept awake by one story and ended up getting up and messing around with the other one which you like. It's always such a temptation to mess around (I usually call it fiddling around with) those stories we're writing that we actually already like. You're so human, my dear. So very human. *Sigh*
So you get to have a happy Duncan being happy with you. And eating grapes. Why not?

Date: 2026-05-19 09:02 pm (UTC)Ewen is (as previously mentioned) very pretty and very tall (everywhere he goes, people make eyes at him, it's hilarious), and your icon of Duncan lounging in flowers makes me think of how Ewen is also a very pretty and braw Highlander who would look very nice lounging in flowers. (When we first meet him, he lounges entirely nude in the heather.)
Alas, Heron is a very small fandom -- there's perhaps a dozen of us, and only 150 works on AO3 (up from the 50 when I joined!), which means that I'm more likely to get prompts and discussion and auction bids for other fandoms. But as much as you can say that I have a current fandom (I'm aggressively multifannish), The Flight of the Heron would probably be it.
There, I have made an icon! Keith and Ewen from the 1968 adaptation. Keith trying to talk Ewen into surrendering while not being able to take his eyes off his lips. As one does.

Date: 2026-05-20 02:32 am (UTC)Why? Well, you said no one would make them and Emily Dickinson inspired me, nobody being roughly equivalent to no one. The title of the poem is the first line of it:
I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you - Nobody - too?
Then there's a pair of us!
Dont tell! they'd banish us - you know!
How dreary - to be - Somebody!
How public - like a Frog -
To tell your name - the livelong June -
To an admiring Bog!

Date: 2026-05-20 02:57 am (UTC)Yes, that's the 1976 BBC adaptation, which kept all the plotty bits and yet somehow mislaid the beating heart of the story, which is the bond between Keith and Ewen. A very good Keith, all parties obviously understood that Ewen has legs to die for, and extra points for making sure we began with nakey Ewen, but the actor who played Ewen never sold it for me.
The 1968 Scottish TV adaptation is the other way around: mislaid all the non-Keith-and-Ewen parts of the plot, but understood that the story lives or dies by the bond between Keith and Ewen. The 1968 footage is in terrible shape, and there are times the plot gets so telegraphic that I would have been lost without having read the book, but it does get that Keith and Ewen are unhinged about each other, and nails the ending.

I spent the afternoon making icons, too! :-D This is a fanart by

Date: 2026-05-20 03:25 am (UTC)Is the art supposed to be Ewen and Keith. The one in the foreground kinda looks like Logan aka Wolverine. From what you say about the 68 show, it sounds like I'd be happier reading the book first, so it's on my list of tbr now. I'll need something to turn to if I ever manage to finish this epic Sherlock fic I'm in that is over 180K words long. But it is brilliant. John and Sherlock insanely love while thus far, over 25 chapters in, totally respecting that Sherlock is asexual and has not one bit of interest in having an orgasm. Abhors them actually. While still delighted and happy to provide them of John. It's fascinating. Also totally respecting Sherlock's difficulty in understanding anything about even his own emotions let alone anyone else's. Fascinating.
My gods, I'm talented at babbling. I'll leave you one of the two icons I made. And try to go an write something before I have to crash. Laters

Date: 2026-05-20 03:48 am (UTC)The Sherlock fic sounds very good; what is it? Is it BBC or another version?
And yes, go write something! Thank you for my icons of pretty Ewen. Here he is being all sophisticated and educated and cultured (and pretty!) and all the things Keith never expected to find in the Highlands.
